Dozens of people have been arrested by the Santa Monica police for allegedly looting the homes of people that evacuated ahead of the deadly California fires.

The suspects were found in homes in Santa Monica and the neighboring Pacific Palisades.

Officials say 10 suspects were discovered within the Palisades evacuation zones, and six of the 10 were carrying "burglary tools." All suspects traveled to the disaster area from outside Santa Monica.

As of Wednesday morning, more than 38,000 acres have burned with officials reporting 24 deaths. More than six million people remain under critical fire threat.
