This popular gospel hymn, ‘Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,’ was written by two authors. Elisha A. Hoffman, who composed more than 2,000 compositions and compiled nearly 50 songbooks and hymnals, wrote the stanzas. Anthony J. Showalter wrote the refrain, as well as the music. The song was first published in 1887 in the Glad Evangel for Revival, Camp and Evangelistic Meeting Hymnal.

The beautiful hymn references Deuteronomy 33:27, which says, "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." What a great reminder that our relationship with Jesus can be an intimate one, and we can see him as a friend that we can rely on and lean on. 

When it comes to Mark Lowry and his background, he is best known for co-writing the song ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ and being a member of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1988 to 2001, and 2009 to 2013, along with Michael English, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, and Bill Gaither.

Mark Lowry, along with the other singers in this video, did a wonderful singing of ‘Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.’ This is the type of song that reminds people about the peace found through the grace and refuge of God. Barrett co-wrote and released “Praise the Lord Forever” in June this year. It is a beautiful song that proclaims God’s reign. It highlights life's difficult moments, emphasizing that peace can be found through Christ. Pat took inspiration from Psalms 103:1 when he wrote the song. 

“I wanted a song that feels like Sunday Morning – and this one means so much to me. It’s been filling my heart with worship in the most simple and beautiful way,” said Pat.

She has bright eyes, a genuine smile, and a presence leading worship. We see close-ups of other instrumentalists and singers who also have great joy as we watch them celebrate the Savior who always keeps His promises.

Each has their own unique talent. We see a full choir of joyful children celebrating the love of Jesus. It is wildly entertaining to encounter their zeal and various talents. We experience the innocent and pure worship of children from various age groups who come together. They excitedly worship God with their motions, voices, and their instruments. There is a brass section and even a child drummer. 

On the second verse, we hear from more unique children who each have beautiful voices. The second verse is a wonderful addition.

This song is irresistible in every way, with children from all backgrounds and ethnicities worshiping Jesus with all that they have to offer Him. It gives us a glimpse into what eternity will be like and reminds us of Jesus’ special love and pursuit of children during His earthly ministry.

He tells us to become like little children and that when we have Him as Savior, we get to shine His light. They so willingly and eagerly accept His words and trust His love for them.
