When Cruelty Replaces Creativity

Big story yesterday when ten cars of thugs surrounded a vehicle carrying federal law enforcement officials and gunfire ensued.  This was a seditious act.  But that is not what bothers me. What bothers me is let’s assume the actors were convinced the officers were gestapo hunting Jews.  The fact that they were not gestapo is proven by the fact that they walked away.  The actual gestapo would have hosed them down with large caliber machine guns and left them dead in the streets.  And given that, would not the better act of rebellion be to, ala Anne Frank, hide the people being hunted?  No this was not merely seditious, this was an act designed and intended to execute violence of government officials.  This fact belies any claims to this being a legitimate rebellious act taken in the defiance of government injustice.

Let me put it more plainly – the people that executed this attack upon a government vehicle were far more interested in attacking the government than they were “saving” any immigrants the officials might have been hunting.  There is no humanity to this story – only hatred and violence.

Which brings me to this story:

A woke Build-A-Bear Workshop employee in Washington state allegedly refused a teen customer’s wish to name her new teddy after slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

What started as a lighthearted trip with friends to the Southcenter Mall outside Seattle soon soured for 16-year-old Evi McCormick when the store manager shot down her request to put Kirk’s name on her newly-created stuffed animal’s birth certificate, the teen told King 5 News.

“She just didn’t agree with it. She didn’t support it and she told me, ‘We’re not doing this,’” McCormick told the outlet.

The toy tyrant then cruelly crumpled up the birth certificate, which customers are given with every Build-A-Bear purchase, and threw it away in front of the flabbergasted teen.

Res Ipsa Loquitor– the thing speaks for itself.  There is no humanity in this story, no consideration of the customers feelings, or even the economic contract between vendor and customer- there is only hatred and thankfully no violence.

Both these stories illustrate that we have lost the ability to creatively oppose – to make our case in a winsome and attractive fashion.  Now we simply are cruel and people grant us what we want just for the sake of stopping the cruelty.  It demands escalation in order to restore decency and order.  It is a form of social blackmail.

Earlier this week we looked at how God calls us to respond and the high cost of that response.  But this Sunday morning I am just heartsick that there are people in this country so filled with disgust and hatred that they torture a young lady over naming a teddy bear – that there are people so angry at the federal government that they would rather attack it than think creatively how to save those in whose name they attack.

This Sunday morning I go to church to pray for their clearly broken souls and for the souls of all who support or agree with them.  Their ugly and harmful actions notwithstanding, these are hurting people, clinging to anger and hatred where there should be life and love.
