It’s Called “Accountability”

Grade inflation is extremely real and everybody knows it.  The reason?  Somewhere in the last few decades teachers grew tired of parent raising h&%% when their child failed so the teachers started handing out passing grades to avoid the hassle.  We live in an age where we are not responsible for our own failures.  Such was the thought that crossed my mind when I read the story from this morning concerning the CDC in the NYTimes.

Cast as a tale of Trump administration mismanagement of the agency – you need look no further than the fourth paragraph to understand exactly what is going on here:

Interviews with more than 30 current and former employees reveal the agency is now tightly controlled by Mr. Kennedy and his associates, and its scientists are finding it increasingly difficult to do their jobs effectively. (Some of them spoke on the condition of anonymity because of a fear of retaliation from the administration.)

Let me rephrase that just a little: “Sob…sob…sob, my buddy lost his job and I have to work harder and most of all I have to actually perform!”  Yeah, yeah, yeah.  The CDC and its allied federal health agencies put on a performance so awful and so nearly globally disastrous during the covid pandemic that they are lucky the agency still exists at all.  Spare me your crocodile tears.

The agency is indeed under tight control because the agency ran amok and failed.  Aided mightily by media like the NYTimes, the agency generated panic and the subsequent overreaction when what was called for was careful sobriety and the magic words , “I don’t know.”  As the pandemic panic subsided I thought all such agencies would require complete reorganization and rebranding – so shot was their reputation.  But apparently they are “too big too fail.”  But they are not too big to be put on a leash and pulled to heel.

Look, I get it, RFK, Jr. is one of the oddest ducks in an unorthodox administration.  But that does not mean that what he is doing is all bad.

I grow very, very weary of the media turning stories about this administration getting federal agencies back on track into hit pieces.

On the subject of accountability.

A call for global regulation – on anything – is a call for global domination.  See covid.

Yes, education needs to get better – lots better.

Meanwhile, In California…

Even this fictional expansion of Gavin Newsom’s covid mea culpa is in adequate – it ignores his greatest sin – ordering churches out of business.  “Too little, too late” and utterly incomplete.

And yet he repeats the same mistake – declaring an emergency before an emergency actually happens.  Just remember, declared emergencies turn on money and power spigots.

Newsom has bigger and better screw-ups he has to get to.

Saw this a lot this week – media trying to make it true.  If it comes true it will be a disaster for California.  Scratch that, it will worsen the disaster that is California.

Of course they do.

Don’t you just love it when the data supports what common sense is telling you.
