Cruelty and Cannibalism: Trump & Candace Giftwrapping Midterms for the Left
The Salty Citizen
Audio By Carbonatix
In a season that should be so politically merry and bright–with the bad fruit of Leftism being served on a hundred fronts right now, including Australian beaches and the Brown University campus–we are instead having to swallow the bitter pills of Trumps tweets and Candace Owen’s beef with the world.
Not Everything Is About You
Not everything is about you.
Not all mental illness is about you.
Not all addiction is about you.
Not all assassinations are about you. And domestic violence in someone else’s domicile is almost never about you.
Let that sit for a moment.
Because if the last week has shown us anything, it’s that far too many on the political right—particularly those who claim strength, stability, or “own the libs” strategic genius—seem completely unwilling to stop, breathe, and realize not everything in the world requires their personal projection or punditry.
The Rob Reiner Reaction: Calloused Compassion is Not a Thing
When news broke about Rob Reiner’s murder, you would think—just for a breath—that the right could muster minimal decency or silence.
But no.
Trump jumped on Truth Social with insinuations tying Reiner’s death to anti-Trump obsession. Dear Lord., no.
Friends…
There is a tragedy unfolding here that was likely preceded by decades of pleading, praying, trying, and helplessness—none of which had anything to do with TDS.
This is where the skill of perspective comes in:
YOU are not the lens through which you see all things.
It’s self-centric. It’s pride.
And it’s not helpful.
Two things can be true:
-
I can support a leader’s policies while being disappointed in their personality.
-
I can loathe a celebrity’s politics while lamenting their death.
This isn’t emotional complexity—it’s adulthood. Adulthood would also indicate right now that we don’t have the margins for unforced errors or self-sabotaging news-cycles. Of all the truly newsworthy things we should be discussing right now, even 30 seconds stolen from those issues is a waste of time we can’t afford. Friends, we don’t have the surplus to wage war on multiple fronts.
Meanwhile… Democrats Are Getting Christmas Early
But the Reiner situation wasn’t the only unforced error this week.
Enter: Candace Owens vs. TPUSA.
Owens has turned her personal grievances into a full-blown public feud with Turning Point USA. The name-calling, theological pot-shots, veiled threats, subtweets, livestream rants—it’s all there. And for what? Ego. Platform. Dominance. A perpetual performance piece that has become so destructive she is essentially helping the enemy at this point. And the “real” enemy of the American people…like corrupt fraudsters, Islamic and domestic terrorists…as opposed to Charlie Kirk’s grieving widow.
Meanwhile, Democrats are over here sipping peppermint mochas and saying,
“Well, thank you. We didn’t even need to wrap this one.”
The right complains about media bias and sabotage, yet continues handing over ammunition willingly:
-
Trump publicly speculating about Reiner’s murder
-
Candace Owens waging war on her own movement
-
Conservative influencers choosing chaos over character
This isn’t strategy.
This isn’t political brilliance.
This is self-inflicted injury—twice in one week.
The Bar Is Low. That Doesn’t Mean We Crawl Under It.
Just because culture has lowered the bar for truth, justice, compassion, maturity, ethics, integrity, and humility doesn’t mean we must limbo beneath it.
We can demand better of ourselves.
We must model better for others—publicly and privately.
It won’t trend.
It won’t go viral.
It won’t generate ad revenue or applause.
But it will be right.
And that is enough.
A Christian Reminder: Maturity Is Not Optional
If believers are going to invoke faith every election cycle like a campaign sticker, then they must be reminded:
-
We are called to maturity.
-
We are commanded to humility.
-
We are instructed to imitate Christ—not cable news.
And yes, I fall short too. But I’m still trying to reach the standard God sets, not the one Twitter rewards.
Christ washed Judas’s feet, knowing betrayal was coming.
He didn’t slam the bowl down and say, “Screw you, Judas. You treated me badly.”
The example we follow is Jesus—
not culture, not commentators, not content creators.
Truth in Love Is Still the Assignment
We are called to offer truth in love to a world–to Hollywood directors– that doesn’t deserve it—
because we didn’t deserve the truth, grace, or love God offered us.
That’s why grace is still so irresistible.
“Do as THEY do…” may work as a short-term political tactic.
But it’s a disaster for discipleship
and a demolition derby for credibility.
Someone has to choose maturity.
Someone has to model integrity.
Someone has to refuse the chaos—even when chaos feels cathartic.
If not, the right will keep delivering Christmas early to the left—
beautifully wrapped, tied with a bow, and labeled:
From Us. To You. With Love.
