SEATTLE (AP) — Leo Rivas had an RBI single in the 10th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.

Rivas, who pitch ran for Taylor Ward in the eighth, lined a two-out single to center off Ryan Zeferjahn (4-4) to score automatic runner Randy Arozarena from third.

Seranthony Domínguez (5-3) threw a scoreless 10th, leaving a runner stranded at third.

Seattle (61-68) sits four games back of Houston in the AL West and three games for the final wild-card spot. The Cubs (74-55) maintain a five-game lead in the NL wild card.

Alex Bregman hit two homers for the Cubs, the second a tying blast in the ninth off Andrés Muñoz.

Cal Raleigh tied it at 3 in the second inning with a three-run blast into left center — his 14th of the season. In the same inning, Brendan Donovan hit an RBI single to put the Mariners up 4-3.

Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his seventh leadoff homer this season, and third over his last four games. He sent Emerson Hancock's fastball 367-feet into right field for his 32nd homer this season, surpassing a career high.

Bregman's two-run shot capped a three-run inning for the Cubs in the first.

After a three-run, 30 pitch first inning, Hancock settled in his final four frames. He allowed three runs on eight hits along with six strikeouts in 5 /2/3 innings.

Matthew Boyd pitched six innings, allowing five runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell was ejected for the fifth time this season after arguing over a balk call at the end of the fifth inning. Boyd attempted to pick off Brock Rodden at first, who later scored on Arozarena's single that put Seattle up 5-3.

Chicago's Ian Happ hit a solo homer in the eighth — his 21st.

Up next

Mariners LHP Kade Anderson was set make his major league debut Saturday, opposing Cubs LHP David Peterson (7-7, 5.29 ERA).
