AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 4, 2026--

Aalo Atomics, the company building fully modular nuclear plants to power modern AI data centers (XMRs), has selected Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, to provide it with a 10 MWe steam turbine generator set and associated ancillary systems. The steam turbine will be used for the power island of Aalo-X, Aalo’s experimental reactor, and will put Aalo squarely on the path to being one of the first advanced reactors to power a data center.

“Baker Hughes’ steam turbines draw their high efficiency and reliability from decades of development and in-field experience and will provide us with the proven industrial-grade components we need to achieve criticality this year,” said Yasir Arafat, CTO, Aalo Atomics. “What’s more, Baker Hughes’ modular design approach mirrors Aalo’s focus on creating modular reactors, making it an ideal supplier and collaborator.”

Baker Hughes will deliver its steam turbine to Aalo by the end of 2026. Leveraging Baker Hughes’ power generation expertise and Aalo’s advanced nuclear technology, the companies began collaborating on the Aalo-X power island after the order was placed in the fourth quarter of 2025.

“Small, advanced nuclear facilities have the potential to play a significant role in generating sustainable and reliable power for data centers,” said Alessandro Bresciani, Senior Vice President, Energy Equipment, Baker Hughes. “We are excited to be collaborating with Aalo on this journey, providing them with an innovative solution that can efficiently address growing data center energy needs.”

In the past few months, the Aalo-X experimental reactor at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) has secured official site allocation from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Idaho Operations Office (DOE-ID), broken ground and erected its critical facility, completed Preliminary and Final Design Reviews involving over 40 experts, and received an Environmental Assessment Determination from the DOE, which expedites the environmental review process.
