Man dies after being shot by police officer outside NJ home

MANTUA, N.J. (AP) — State authorities say a police officer shot and killed a man during an early morning encounter outside the man’s New Jersey home. The New Jersey attorney general’s office says two officers arrived a Mantua Township home just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in response to a 911 call. Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates that one police officer fired his service weapon during an encounter outside the home, wounding the man. He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday. Officials said a .45 caliber handgun was recovered near the man, whose identity hasn’t been released.
