HEMET, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 2, 2026--

As electricity prices in California have nearly doubled over the past decade, residents of manufactured homes continue to face a disproportionate share of rising energy costs.

Mobile Home Power, a Southern California–based solar company, is focused exclusively on bringing financial and energy relief to manufactured home residents — a segment representing more than 521,000 homes statewide and housing roughly 1.3 to 1.4 million Californians.

“Manufactured home residents are often on low, moderate, or fixed incomes,” said Chase Evans, Founder of Mobile Home Power. “At the same time, these homes tend to be less energy efficient while electricity prices continue to rise. That combination creates a significant energy burden — and solar can provide meaningful financial relief.”

A study from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), cited in a Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) report, found that manufactured home residents spend approximately 86 percent more per square foot on electricity than owners of site-built homes and devote roughly 5 percent of household income to energy costs — about 66 percent higher than traditional housing.

In California, that exposure has intensified. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, average residential electricity prices increased by approximately 96 percent between 2014 and 2024. Energy burden — the percentage of income spent on energy — is widely used as a measure of financial stress, and households exceeding 6 percent are considered heavily burdened. Many manufactured home residents approach or exceed that threshold.

Despite rapid growth in solar adoption statewide, manufactured housing has often been overlooked due to structural and logistical challenges such as roof load considerations, land-lease arrangements, and financing limitations. Mobile Home Power specializes in addressing these barriers by providing solar solutions tailored specifically for manufactured homes, including options designed to eliminate upfront costs and deliver stable, predictable energy expenses.

“We believe the homeowners paying the highest share of their income toward electricity should not be the last to benefit from solar,” Evans said. “Our mission is simple: expand access and deliver predictable energy costs to communities that have historically been underserved.”

By focusing exclusively on manufactured home residents — whether located in communities or on individually owned land — Mobile Home Power aims to expand solar access and help reduce energy costs for homeowners who stand to benefit the most.

“As electricity rates continue to rise, energy equity becomes more urgent,” Evans added. “Expanding solar access for manufactured home residents isn’t just about clean energy — it’s about fairness.”
