Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar is receiving fresh criticism after it was revealed that she once described acts of terrorism as a reaction to “our involvement in other people’s affairs.”
Fox News reports Omar made the comments during a TV interview just after a brutal al-Shabab attack on a Kenyan shopping mall in 2013.
The terror attack killed nearly 70 and wounded 200. During a discussion about the attack, Omar suggested that the United States’ involvement in the world has “contributed to the rise of the radicalization and the rise of terrorist acts.”
Omar also joined the show’s host in comparing the violence carried out by terror groups to the actions of western governments.
Omar is now a freshman member of Congress and has a seat, ironically, on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
